About Primal Curio

Hello curious beings! My name is Amy, I am an artist based in Hampshire and am often lovingly referred to as 'wonderfully weird'. My approach to art, as well as life in general, is a holistic one. I believe in the power of transformation and that connection through creativity can not just build community but also support healing within ourselves.

My own life has been a series of transformative moments, experiences and choices. The saying, every day is a learning day, could not be more true. Like everyone, I experience challenges and struggles in life, but one constant outlet that has always supported me on my journey is my creativity. At the age of 29, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life. I chose to get sober and am a happy and healthy recovering alcoholic to this day. My work prior to sobriety was expressive of pain and allowed me an outlet as well as an escape from this turmoil. Since starting my journey of sobriety, my work, like many other aspects of my life, has evolved. My focus, while still expressive, is more an exploration of myself and the world around me. I use processes which align with methods of meditation and actively seek to experience hope and joy through my work. I believe this energy and sense of life is clear in the work I now produce.

I have a great deal of experience supporting others emotionally, both through the trials of daily life and through the traumatic events so many sadly endure. My own journey in this area has also been immensely challenging at times and I have been fortunate enough in recent years to have built a circle of love and support within my own community. Once I understood and accepted that I was the only person who could change my life, I was able to take control of both myself and my future. I do not believe in toxic positivity, shame or victim blaming. What I do believe, is that every one of us has the capability to thrive if we are afforded the appropriate support and compassion to be our own primal purpose.

In 2025 I established Primal Curio. My mission, to inspire and empower! The aim being to combine my own creative practice with a wider offering to my community. I share my skills, interest and time to support others in the creative process, with a focus on building the self and empowering individuals to embrace their unique qualities and recognise their own worth. The prime or primal aspect being the self, yourself. You are at the centre of your world, this is not selfishness, this is fact. So many of us, particularly women, the neurodiverse and anyone who considers themselves 'other' struggle to prioritise themselves and we will often lessen ourselves in order to be accepted or feel safer in society. This process chips away at our sense of self and doesn't allow for the freedom of expression and acceptance of individuality which we all need to thrive. Instead, I propose, we become curious. Curious of ourselves, curious of our capabilities, curious of our potential and curious of what life could be if we didn't have to diminish who we are, but could embrace it fully. Let's get curious!
